Microsoft and NFL deepen tie up to accelerate league digitization

REDMOND, Washington:  Microsoft Corp. and the National Football League announced on Tuesday that they plan to further deepen their technology partnership. The goal of the multi-year contract extension is to enable the entire NFL – including coaches and players – to communicate and collaborate more efficiently through Microsoft Surface devices and Microsoft Teams (hub for teamwork in Office 365).

“Microsoft has been helping the NFL with technology-based transformation around the game since 2013,” said Renie Anderson , Chief Revenue Officer and Executive Vice President of NFL Partnerships. “Microsoft Surface has quickly established itself in football as an authentic tool and is great for coaches and players and NFL officials have become essential to all NFL games. We’re now working together to introduce Microsoft Teams across the league so we can improve our communication and collaboration. ”

“We welcome continued collaboration with the NFL to drive their digitization forward,” said Yusuf Mehdi , corporate vice president, Modern Life, Search and Devices, Microsoft we brought the game up to date. And thanks to the deeper integration of Surface and Microsoft Teams into the fast-paced league, we have a great opportunity to work more productively with the strengths of hardware and software across the board. ”

The partnership provides for Microsoft and the NFL to work together on modern collaboration technology, including the new Microsoft Teams platform. Microsoft Teams offers seamless functionality on Windows, iOS and Android devices and combines chat, telephony, meetings, files, document collaboration and workflow in a single app. Instead of working with separate apps, the NFL teams and the entire organization can collaborate with Microsoft teams and remain constantly and securely networked.

Several NFL clubs have already launched the Microsoft Teams platform. With the New York Jets, Microsoft Teams ensures that important messages such as the team line-up are transmitted reliably and in real time. The Kansas City Chiefs, Super Bowl Champions, coordinate the travel plans of their talent scouts with Microsoft Teams. And the Miami Dolphins are planning with Microsoft Teams the Super Bowl LIV at Hard Rock Stadium.

“The Miami Dolphins rely on teams for all cross-functional strategic projects. With teams, we can easily collaborate on files, manage shared calendars, host meetings, and use existing integrations. Teams has made it much easier to work with the NFL during the regular season and to plan the Super Bowl, “said Kim Rometo , Miami Dolphins vice president and chief information officer.

With the Microsoft Surface Sideline Viewing System (SVS), Microsoft continues to deliver an outstanding tool for the NFL. Players, coaches on the sidelines and coaches on the coaching bench benefit from images and game data almost in real time. Microsoft Surface Instant Replay (MSIR) provides mobile video evidence for game officials and can help make game play smoother. More than 2,000 Surface devices and 170 Windows servers are used in the 35 stadiums across the country. Microsoft provides the base technology for 333 NFL events every day on matchday.

In addition to integration at the edge of the field, Microsoft is working with all NFL teams and their partners on special business and consumer-oriented integrations to provide practical productivity solutions. From Surface devices that serve as a playbook, video analyzes on devices from the Surface family  and use in the stadium on matchday, to Surface devices for operational business in the front office, it is clear that Microsoft is valued by NFL teams as a reliable technology partner becomes.
